Seatac Airport

Parking
The Port of Seattle built Seattle-Tacoma International, or Sea-Tac, Airport, in 1944 to serve local residents after Boeing Field was taken over to be used in World War II. Boeing Field was named after William E. Boeing. It was the main passenger airport from 1928 until the war. In 1947, the first scheduled flights occurred and in 1949, the airport became International when Northwest Airlines offered direct flights to Tokyo.

In time the runway was lengthened and the airport expanded in the 70's adding a second runway, two satellite terminals and other improvements. Sea-Tac added a third runway that opened in 2008, more than 10 years after it was first proposed.

Seatac has a Central Terminal building with four concourses that are ordered A through D and North and South Satellite Terminals. Concourse A has 14 gates and B, C, and D have 11 gates. An underground people mover system connects the satellite terminals to the central terminal.

The Central Terminal was recently renovated and 20 new restaurants and shops were added. Multi-user flight information displays are also new in the central terminal and other areas.

As of 2008, there have been 32,196,528 total air passengers, making Seatac the 17th busiest airport in the US. There are many domestic and international destinations including: Amsterdam, Atlanta, Beijing, Boston, Cancun, Chicago, Detroit, Edmonton, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Honolulu, Ketchikan, London, Los Cabos, Paris, Phoenix, Reykjavik, Santa Rose, Seoul, Sitka, Tokyo, Victoria, and Yakima.

Both Sound Transit regional express buses and King County’s Metro Transit bus system serve Seatac. There are also rental cars, limos, taxis, and shuttle services available. Seattle’s Central Link light rail system is under current construction to extend service to Sea-Tac.

Sea-Tac airport is located in SeaTac, Washington approximately 1.5 miles from Interstate 5 at the intersections of State Route 509, State Route 518, and State Route 99.
