Philadelphia Airport

Parking
The Philadelphia International Airport (code PHL) continues to see steady growth in the number of passengers it handles as well as the number of flights. Since Southwest Airlines began using the airport in 2004, the airport has had to expedite expansion plans.

The roots of the Philadelphia airport date back to the 1920s, when space was purchased for a small landing field on what is now the northwest corner of the airport. In 1977 the present facility was completed. In 1985 a rail line with service to Philadelphia's Center City began operating, with trains running every half hour during peak service times. A new international terminal, Terminal A, opened in the late 1990s, and the latest terminal, Terminal F, opened in 2001.

Currently, PHL serves over 31 million passengers a year. In 2008 it was ranked at the 11th busiest airport in the world in terms of plane arrivals and departures. Philadelphia airport is the closest international airport to Atlantic City, NJ, and to Wilmington, DE. It also serves Camden, New Jersey and its suburbs.

The airport is served by the R1 SEPTA Commuter Train, which runs most days from 6 AM to Midnight between the airport and Philadelphia's three main Center City stations, 30th Street, Suburban, and Market Street. The train stops at almost every terminal, between the arrival and departure areas. Taxis and limousines are available at every terminal.

Unlike most airports where arrivals and departures are grade separated, Philadelphia airport's are separated at ground level, with the commuter train line, ground transportation roadways, and baggage arrival carousels separating passenger pick up from ticketing and security. This can be quite confusing if it is not familiar.

Phila airport is located southwest of Center City Philadelphia between the I-95 interstate and the Delaware River. The address is: 8000 Essington Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19153.
